Razzaq to consult lawyers before responding to show-cause notice ? Cricket News Update

Veteran Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has said that he will consult his lawyers before submitting his reply to the show-cause notice issued to him by the country?s governing body, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), for his recent media outburst against national T20 skipper Mohammad Hafeez.

Razzaq, 32, was served with a show-cause notice by the PCB on Tuesday for publically criticising captain Hafeez on his return home, following Pakistan?s semi-final exit from the recently concluded ICC World T20 championship in Sri Lanka.

The hard-hitting all-rounder was dropped for the semi-final against Sri Lanka in favour of left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir. The tourists lost the knock-out game by 16 runs and returned home without playing the tournament final. On his return home, Razzaq claimed that he could have been a match winner had Hafeez not dropped him for the summit clash last Thursday.

Hafeez said that the decision to play Tanvir ahead of Razzaq was taken by the team management, which wanted to play an extra specialist pacer against the Islanders, who play spin well.

But Razzaq publically blamed the fellow all-rounder for his exclusion from the semi-final?s squad and said that Hafeez should have the courage to own up to his wrong decision instead of shifting the blame to others. In the aftermath of his media outburst, PCB issued him a show-cause notice on Tuesday, seeking an explanation over his contentious remarks.

"What Razzaq has done is a serious offence under the code of conduct and we have sent him a notice asking him to respond within seven days," a PCB official confirmed yesterday.

Razzaq said that he would consult his lawyers before responding to the notice, reiterating that he remains disappointed at being dropped for the Sri Lanka tie.

"I will see the showcause notice and consult with my lawyer before deciding on my future course of action," said Razzaq. "I will be looking into my options before deciding what to do about the notice," he added.

It may be noted here that the veteran all-rounder is not on PCB?s list of centrally contracted players, but is a signatory to the code of conduct and is bound to follow the rules. If Razzaq failed to satisfy the board with his reply a disciplinary hearing will be held.
